The Mission

The Mission of the Shim and Lim's Won Children's Library (SLWCL) is to inspire and benefit the children who can read English and who live or have lived in Korea, to become members of a global community, children who appreciate and respect for the diversities -- by providing the children with the best collection of children's literature in English.

History

Junho Shim and his wife Kyungjin Lim lived in the United States for several years in mid 90's and early 20s. During their staying in the States, they lived in multiple locations over the nation; from far East Long Islands, New York to far West San Jose, California, including the longest years in Chicago, Illinois. Among those that they both shared, a belief to appreciate the value of readings was always at front in everyday life. They just loved to locate their apartments or houses near by the libraries, and have thought of having their own children's library.

This thought was actually brought in action when they came back to the States again in 2007. They collected more than two thousand books from booksellers, libraries, and often from private parties. They also began to build up a database to record and search for the authors, titles, publishers of the collected books. When they moved back to Korea in 2008, they remodeled their apartment to accomodate the books for their own three children, and opened the Library in August, 2008.

Library Identifications

  • The SLWCL Symbol & Signature (version 1.0) :
    • The Shim & Lim's Won Children's Library Symbol directly stresses out the three key components of the library; Children, Books, and the Won. The Symbol as a whole employs the Three Primary Colors while the book in its detail does the rainbow colors; implying through the colors a phylosophy of the principles and the diversities.
    • We harmonize the colors of the Signature by matching those between the Symbol and the Logotype. In the Logotype, the letters of 'Children's Library' is enlarged and centered as to their greater importance. We also include a motto of the Library at the bottom, to highlight our expression of a guiding principle of the Mission.
  • History :
The ideas and design skeleton of the version 1.0 was initially brought up by the Library Co-directors, and futher designed and developed by the C&D Design, Inc., Iksan, Korea.
  • Acquisition :
All Copyrights on the SLWCL Symbol & Signature are preserved by the Shim & Lim's Won Children's Library. If you would like to use or want to know more about the SLWCL Symbol & Signature, please contact us.
