The MissionThe Mission of the Shim and Lim's Won Children's Library (SLWCL) is to inspire and benefit the children who can read English and who live or have lived in Korea, to become members of a global community, children who appreciate and respect for the diversities -- by providing the children with the best collection of children's literature in English. |
HistoryJunho Shim and his wife Kyungjin Lim lived in the United States for several years in mid 90's and early 20s. During their staying in the States, they lived in multiple locations over the nation; from far East Long Islands, New York to far West San Jose, California, including the longest years in Chicago, Illinois. Among those that they both shared, a belief to appreciate the value of readings was always at front in everyday life. They just loved to locate their apartments or houses near by the libraries, and have thought of having their own children's library. This thought was actually brought in action when they came back to the States again in 2007. They collected more than two thousand books from booksellers, libraries, and often from private parties. They also began to build up a database to record and search for the authors, titles, publishers of the collected books. When they moved back to Korea in 2008, they remodeled their apartment to accomodate the books for their own three children, and opened the Library in August, 2008.
